Last week we came across some photos of Willeroo S

Last week we came across some photos of Willeroo Station that we had never seen before. Photos of the house when it was newly built, and in the early years that followed.

It is quite humbling to see these; looking at the people who lived here and worked here. Who walked the same paths and worked the same land. These are the people we need to thank for the house they built and the trees that they planted.

It also makes you realise that we are simply the current custodians. That one day we will be a memory and part of the history of this homestead. Every generation has put their stamp on Willeroo and we are currently doing the same.

Like many old houses, ours was lacking much natura

Like many old houses, ours was lacking much natural light. We wanted to add skylights but have beautiful pressed tin ceilings that we didn’t want to tamper with. Instead, we added two sets of these large glass double doors and placed skylights in the verandah, directly above, to maximise the light penetrating inside. It has made such a difference and really increased the indoor/outdoor connection.

The Pool House. Over the past few years we have b

The Pool House.
Over the past few years we have been renovating this old stone building attached to our house. It had originally been four separate rooms, including the butter churning room and storage of the homesteads first generator. Now it is an entertaining space and self contained accommodation.
There is still some electrical and plumbing to complete but it has been exciting to see this space come together.

The Courtyard. Over the past 12 months we have b

The Courtyard.

Over the past 12 months we have been renovating our courtyard. This started with us lifting 2500 bricks in the original courtyard and the removal of a concreted area. We then excavated the area to increase the size and change the shape. We concreted the new area, added stone walls, steps, relayed the old bricks and planted out the garden beds.

Then next phase includes the continuation of the steps to a brick path leading to a new driveway and car park. Irrigation and lighting provisions are in place and need to be connected.
